Babykid Spain + FIMI is an order-writing fair, not a consumer show: it opens to the trade only. Feria Valencia and ASEPRI run it, and it fills two levels of hall 7 with four ranges that sit side by side in the shop — nursery products, childrenswear and youth fashion, footwear and toys — nursery being the largest block of the four. Facing them are the buyers: specialist retailers, chains and buying groups, a good share of them from abroad, mainly Italy, Portugal and the rest of the Mediterranean rim, plus Latin America and the Middle East, many invited through ICEX, IVACE and the organisers themselves. FIMI carries more than a hundred editions of Spanish childrenswear behind it; each day closes with a catwalk, the FIMI Kids Fashion Week.

Here the stand is a sales office with the collection hanging in it. The buyer arrives with an appointment, sits down and writes next season's order, so the size is set by how many meetings you want to hold at once, not by the width of the frontage. In fashion and footwear the garment is small and the rail fills up fast: we count real linear metres, leave enough play for one hanger to come off without dragging the next, and add a table where a garment can be laid flat, which is how the print and the stitching get looked at. Nursery products are the opposite: clear floor so the buyer can open the pushchair, fold it and lift it, and a floor finish that takes three days of wheels without rucking. Both need a closed store, because the sample range travels in boxes and cannot stay in view.
